According to one Learning Styles quiz I am a kinaesthetic learner. This means I learn best through an active, hands-on approach. I do well in classes with a lab component. I may find it hard to sit still for long periods and I may become distracted by the need for activity and exploration.
Someone with a kinaesthetic learning style has a preference for physical experience - touching, feeling, holding, doing, practical hands-on experiences. I will use phrases such as ‘let me try’, ‘how do you feel?’ and will be best able to perform a new task by going ahead and trying it out, learning as they go. I am the person who likes to experiment, hands-on, and never looks at the instructions first!
On this course I could take part in more practical work and add more practical ways of working to help do the theory parts.
1. What sort of leaner did the quizzes say I was?
Physical
Visual
Aural
Social
2. Did this agree with your predictions?
This sort of agreed with my predictions however it said I was less of a solitary learner which I thought I was
3. What do you think now?
I think now that I am a physical leaner rather than a visual which I thought i was
4. What actions can you take to ensure you learn?
To maximise my strengths (visual, social, physical and aural) at home I can find more practical ways of doing my work, start up a work group where a group of social learners can work together. I could also record, on a video camera, the teacher teaching so that I have something visual to watch but auditory to listen to.
5. What activities which you do in class will be the one that helps you the most?
I believe, from these results that the activities I do in class that help me learn the most are the practical activities, in groups.
To improve my ability in the learning styles that I am not as strong in (verbal, solitary and logical) I could try speaking and writing more to improve my verbal skills. I could try using a system in order to help me complete my assignments. Finally I could work alone but listen to music whilst I am working to make it sound like I am not working alone.
A very helpful analysis, Lauren, which will provide an excellent basis for the answer to your assignment. When you do your assignment you need to consider in detail how you can improve your learning using this knowledge - such as recording discussions, watching youtube videos, planning using mindmap.
